Board work roughly.

 

Last time, we roughly explained LGS(=light gauge steel).

 

This time, from the viewpoint of construction work, we are explaining board work, which is the process after LGS work.

 

Before entering into the main topic, let us touch on board material just a little as a review. After that, we are roughly explaining the work itself.

 

What is board material?

In the first place, board material is a kind of interior decorative material which is sticked with adhesive and screw fixing, then used, which was executed on the bedding at the ceiling, wall and pillar.

 

It may be double sticked to enhance strength(as mentioned below).

Ceiling, wall and the like which you usually see, are painted and sticked so-called decorative cloth on this board material, then are finished.

 

There are many kinds of board material. This time, we will not touch on it for the details. However, we can raise gypsum board, calcium silicate board, plywood and so on as examples.

 

Among them, gypsum board is used for most of interior decoration. In addition, gypsum board also has plural kinds.

 

Procedure of board work

Starting here, we are explaining a general board work procedure.

Except for a construction work method called GL (=gypsum lining) work method, unless light gauge steel bedding has been assembled and mounted, we cannot move on to board work process. Therefore, the premise is, light gauge steel bedding work at the construction work place has been completed.

 

①Cutting board material to match the construction work place

Situation of cutting gypsum board. We can break it off by running a general cutter a few times.

 

If the place of executing board material work is smaller than the material, we measure the size and cut it.

When cutting board, by using a general cutter, we run a blade a few times, and cut into the material. We fold it inside, then we can easily cut it off.

 

In addition to the shape of sticking place, we fully measure the necessary open hole place for electric wire and wiring too, then we will go on cutting the material without waste.

 

➁By using board use screw, sticking board material on bedding material

 

Except for the construction work of abovementioned GL work method, when sticking the first sheet of gypsum board, we use a tool called one touch driver.

We drive screw in light gauge steel or wooden bedding, then go on sticking the material.

The screw length and interval to drive in bedding material are roughly decided in advance. If you would use a size of screw which does not reach enough length level level, chances are that it might not be able to endure enough weight. Or if the interval is shortened too much, it may come to affect cracking of board material or so too.

 

We can say that it is a work process to require precision and speed.

 

In addition, in order to enhance strength, we sometimes double stick gypsum board. In this case, instead of using screw fixing, we glue special adhesive, and use a tool called tucker to go on fixing the board.

 

Tucker is, if roughly explained, a tool which can be driven big stapler needle into the board by electric or air power.

By using electro-motion electric powered tucker, or air tucker used in combination with air compressor, we use either tucker to go on driving into a few places, and double stick the board.

Sometimes, a work operation may be done by using screw fixing, not by using tucker too.

 

We stick adhesive tape to make the following work ③process smooth at the inner edge and outer edge, and for protecting gypsum board, which is called corner tape.

 

③Going on filling board and board joint, and screw fixing hole place by putty treatment

Situation of putty treatment work operation of gypsum board on the way.

The center area is not yet fully dried.

 

After finish sticking whole surface of board, we finally would like to go on painting and sticking so-called decorative cloth・・・

However, if we would go on executing construction work as it is, the surface should be still凸凹situation, so its finishing would go bad.

(The surface becoming 凸凹is called「occurring unevenness」.)

 

Therefore, we go on using paste form material called putty to fill in 凸凹.

We stick on adhesive tape to prevent from occurring putty cracking between gypsum board joints called fiber tape, paint putty over heavily, further go on flatten the surface with putty spatura.

We carry on putty up work operation twice, or three times.

After putty dried, we will further go on filing unnecessary putty with sand paper.

 

In this way, a work operation of going on making sticked plural boards together into smooth one board sheet is putty treatment process.

 

As this work operation will affect finished result, skilled worker and polite work operation are necessary.

 

Finally, after fully drying putty, getting rid of dust coming from filing by sand paper, we clean up the site.  Then, we stick so-called decorative cloth, and painting. We move on to finish work operation.

 

Above is board work process except for so-called decorative work operation, painting and so on.

 

Summary

We so far roughly explained board work as above this time.

 

Brief summary as follows,

 

・Board work is, except for exemption, a construction work of going on sticking board material after assembling and mounting wooden・or light gauge steel bedding.

・There are various kinds of board materials. Gypsum board is the mainstream. Calcium silicate board, plywood and so on are used at some places.

・Gypsum board is easy to process. However, it requires worker’s skill such as sticking on bedding, polishing side and surface, putty treatment and so on.
