Rock wool is a heat insulating material, made by heating and melting volcanic rock system natural mineral ores with high temperature, then processed forming fibrous.

As we formerly explained glass wool is a processed material of glass fiber, it seems that the manufacturing method of both rather resembles each other.

As of October 2021, our company main construction work of rock wool was asbestos sound insulating board at ceiling.

 

By the way, its different point from glass wool is ・・・

・As for cost phase, it is inferior to glass wool.

・As for wet endurance and fire resistance properties, rock wool is better.

・As for heat insulating and sound isolating properties, both are almost similar.

Above seems to be the fact.

 

Cost phase

As for cost phase, glass wool still seems to be better.

Depending on thickness and grades, there is difference. However, if it comes to similar thickness, glass wool is the winner.

 

Wet endurance property, fire resistance property

As for wet endurance property, if glass wool absorbs humidity, its performance is degraded like crushed sponge. Furthermore,

it may be mildewed. While rock wool is waterproof, and keeps heat insulating property.

As for fire resistance property also, rock wool is better than glass wool. When touching direct fire, glass wool gradually gets fire and melts down,

we can say that rock wool can still prevent these changes.

However, the fact is that there may be possibility of spreading fire to light steel or other materials too.

So, we still should be careful as it is not going to be all OK to use rock wool rather than using glass wool.

 

Heat insulating property・sound absorbing property

As for heat insulating property and sound absorbing property, it seems that both makes very little difference.

So, totally judging from budget and construction work method,

we can say that the judgment may be changing according to the finishing situation of sound absorbing layer of thickness and other board and the like.

But, if the density becomes lower, it seems that sound absorbing property is going to be different.
